This and Adviatic Songs are two of my favourites... dense hashish reeking doomy grooves that sound like they stumbled out of a Midnight Express Turkish prison to mutter impenetrable Biblical verses and make your head hypnotically nod. Brilliant and unique.
I know everyone loves the older stuff, but this to me is where Om started really becoming a totally singular entity. Steve Albini gives their 'meditation metal' sound so much depth and distance. Thebes could be 5 times as long and it would just get better and more majestic. Favorite Track: Thebes
God is Good was my introduction to OM, and since then they've been one of my favorite bands. Since going through their discography, while I prefer the earlier minimalist years, this album is still one of their best in my opinion. "Thebes" alone makes this album great.
Theologians still can't fully agree, but you're sure to believe after vibrating along with God Is Good. Chants and prayers, non-denominationally laid out with a heaviness that would make Heston-as-Moses blush.
